wHAT IS GOLD VERMEIL?
Different from ‘gold-plating ‘, gold vermeil refers to high quality gold jewellery and the technique that is used when creating it. In French, ‘vermeil’ stands for gilded (gold-coated) silver or bronze. So what’s the difference between gold vermeil and gold-plated? Well the main difference is the base metal and the thickness of the gold layer. Gold vermeil MUST use a sterling silver base to be considered vermeil and have a thicker layer of gold. While gold-plated can use any base metal, and any amount of thickness (which is usually way less than vermeil).
At Silver and Love, our gold vermeil is 18K and guaranteed for 10 years! (You’re welcome!😉)
iS IT WATERPROOF?
All our jewellery is waterproof! However, if you would like to keep your purchase looking its best for as long as possible, it is always recommended to remove your jewellery before any water activity!

How do i take care of my jewellery?
If you’re the type of person that throws their jewellery anywhere there’s space for it, then respectfully this section isn’t for you… happy shopping though!
Right, now we’ve got rid of those lot, we’ve conjured up some DO’s and DONT’S for the real jewellery wearers!😏
DO’S
DO handle your jewellery with care - your extra delicate pieces will need some extra TLC to avoid tangling and scratching.
DO wear protective gloves when doing those dreaded cleaning chores! Chemicals can cause discoloration and damage any stones you may have.
DO use a soft and lint-free polishing cloth when cleaning or drying your jewellery. Silver tends to tarnish over time, this is due to oxygen in the air (known as oxidisation). If your beloved silver piece is beginning to tarnish, take a look at our silver polishing cloth that will bring the shine back to life!
DO store in a jewellery box or an air tight container in a cool, dark place.
DO wear on dry skin - cosmetics such as: moisturisers, makeup, and perfume, fake tan can also dull your shine over time, so its best to make sure your jewellery is the last thing you put on!
DON’TS
DON’T wear during exercise (mainly if you’re clumsy) - jewellery is easy to lose and can catch on machines, trust us, its safer this way…
DON’T wear your jewellery in the shower, bath or while swimming - chlorine and water can both cause damage.
DON’T wear in extreme temperatures - sunlight and humidity can lead to tarnishing and discolouration.
Right, we think that just about covers it. The rest is up to you now!
